Sunday, September 25th, 1-5 PM - John Cage's MusiCircus

"This really is one for history and for the memory books! To our knowledge this was the largest Musicircus ever. With over 500 performers, an audience of several thousand (I think 5 thousand myself but we'll wait to hear from the MCA), and an incredible variety of performance styles and ages it was truly an astounding event!
Laura Kuhn, president of the John Cage Trust, was in attendance. She said it was probably the most exciting Musicircus she has ever seen. The event exceeded the MCA's expectations so greatly that there is already talk of doing something again next year!"
Christopher Preissing, President Chicago Composers Forum

First performed in 1967 in the Stock Pavilion at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, "Musicircus" has since been performed throughout the world but never before in Chicago.

"Musicircus"--one of Cage's most emphatic statements regarding musical/artistic freedom and a milestone in his output--features simultaneous performances of music, poetry, theatre, dance and other arts in a single space. Integral to Cage's philosophy that art is life and to his desire for the creation of decentralized, non-hierarchical communities is his insistence that the performance be free to the general public and that no payment be made to the performers. If you are a performer interested in participating in or volunteering to help produce "Musicircus" email musicircus@chicagocomposers.org.

If you are interested in spending an afternoon at the Museum of Contemporary Art sampling the best of Chicago's arts community please join us for a celebration of the arts.

ADMISSION IS FREE!!

So come one, come all, and join us as THE MUSICIRCUS COMES TO TOWN.
