Dear Community Member, Burners Without Borders invites you to join in an experimental community/environmental recording session next Friday, April 24th, at Loyola University Chicago's Stella Maris Chapel. It starts at 7:00 (preceded by a reception to which you are also invited). This is your chance to be a Burner Without Borders-- to make your art and spirit a form of direct and positive action in the larger community. This is our chance to shine.
Tom LaPorte, Ryan Keesling, Chelsea Ross, Christopher Breedlove and Brendan Luchik are producing a recording session as part of the North Lake Shore Earth Day event (most of which is being held on Saturday).
This year, we have the call out for musicians who want to be professionally recorded. We also have invited all the block club presidents from five wards. They will be honored in a very informal way... and given "Green Bags" containing resources to help make them more effective as environmental leaders on their blocks. It's an approach to community building that hasn't been tried before, and it promises to extend the reach of Earth Day and Green conciousness well beyond the conclusion of Earth Day.
This will NOT be a formal concert. In order to make it the best experience possible for the artists, we are maintaining the tone of the evening as a "recording session", and creating an experience that will be magical, energetic and surprising. When each group is ready to record, we'll call for quiet and hear the song. Otherwise, it's a great party in a very ornate former chapel that is now in use as a recital hall for the Loyola University School of Music. It is at 6525 N. Sheridan Road (right at the turn).
Downtown Dave will MC.
There is a reception at 6:00pm, followed by the event at 7:00.
We want burners to come in burner fashion with burner smiles. We are bringing our ethos and styles to a major Green event involving five wards and multiple neighborhoods.
Please join us in making our art a form of direct action. Join us in making a difference.
Thanks,
Tom, Ryan, Christopher, Chelsea, Brendan
