From the press release:
CHICAGOS MOST TALENTED KIDS PERFOM EVERYTHING FROM TAIKO DRUMMING TO CARIBBEAN SOUNDS AT PLAY ON CHICAGOS SPIRIT OF MUSIC CHILDRENS FESTIVAL

If music be the food of love, play on.-- William Shakespeare, Twelfth Night

Musical celebrations will abound throughout the City of Chicago this summer with Play On Chicago, featuring more than 150 musical and cultural events. Kids of all ages will delight in the Spirit of Music Childrens Festival, from August 9-10 in the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park. The free event showcases the unmatched energy and talent of Chicagos young musicians. Kids will perform everything from blues to hip hop, to classical to gospel at this one-of-a-kind event.

Must-see performers include The Happiness Club, a group of Chicago kids who create their own songs, raps and dances to speak out against drugs, violence and prejudice. The Taste of Carifete, a colorful celebration featuring Caribbean folkdance and music instructed by Pocomania Jamaican Dance Co., which presents a mixture of traditional and contemporary music, dance and folklore to tell the history and heritage of the people of the Caribbean. Another breathtaking musical performance will be given by Tsukasa Taiko, Chicagos renowned Japanese Taiko drummers. Two of the youngest performers, Eigen and Kioto Aoki, are only six and nine years old.

Other highlights of the Spirit of Music Childrens Festival include a performance by Soul Children of Chicago on Saturday, August 9 at 12:00 p.m., an award-winning choir that consists mainly of African-American children ages seven to seventeen. The group is recognized for utilizing music as a motivator to inspire young people throughout the world. Gallery 37 American Jazz Band, Yes Drums, and other young musicians will add to the excitement. Throughout the weekend kids can explore an Instrument Petting Zoo and make percussion instruments as well.
